Mix buttermilk and soda together. Add 1/2 of batch in with egg yolks. Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and sugar. Add to egg yolk batter. Then add balance of buttermilk mixture to egg yolk batter. Stiffly beat egg whites and add to batter. Cook on hot griddle.
