Dog Team Tavern's Sticky Buns

  • 1 c. hot mashed potato
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 pkg. dry yeast
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cup warm potato water
  • 7 cups flour
  • ground cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • Chopped nuts of your choice (walnuts or peans are best)
     
 
Add white sugar, salt and butter to the hot potato. When lukwarm add yeast, eggs, potato water. Stir in flour to make stiff dough. Knead until smooth (8-10 minutes). Let double. Punch Down. Place in refrigerator and chill. Butter baking pan well, and cover with brown sugar. Add enough water to make brown sugar wet (1-2 T - you can use a spray bottle). Sprinkle with chopped nuts. Rool dough 1/2 inch thick, brush with melted butter, sprinkle cinnamon on rolled dough. Roll like a jelly roll. Cut into 1/2 inch pieces.place side by side in baking dish. Let double. Bake at 350 for 30-40 minutes. Remove from pan immediately. Note - The Dog Team Tavern in Middlebury Vermont was open for well over 100 years, and people came from everywhere to eat there! A couple of years ago, this gorgeous old tavern burned to the ground. Thsi recipe had been published many years ago in a local newspaper, much to the delight of the Tavern's fans.
