Dog Team Tavern's Sticky Buns
|
- 1 c. hot mashed potato
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 2 eggs
- 1 1/2 cup warm potato water
- 7 cups flour
- ground cinnamon
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- Chopped nuts of your choice (walnuts or peans are best)

| Add white sugar, salt and butter to the hot potato. When lukwarm add yeast, eggs, potato water. Stir in flour to make stiff dough. Knead until smooth (8-10 minutes). Let double. Punch Down. Place in refrigerator and chill. Butter baking pan well, and cover with brown sugar. Add enough water to make brown sugar wet (1-2 T - you can use a spray bottle). Sprinkle with chopped nuts. Rool dough 1/2 inch thick, brush with melted butter, sprinkle cinnamon on rolled dough. Roll like a jelly roll. Cut into 1/2 inch pieces.place side by side in baking dish. Let double. Bake at 350 for 30-40 minutes. Remove from pan immediately. Note - The Dog Team Tavern in Middlebury Vermont was open for well over 100 years, and people came from everywhere to eat there! A couple of years ago, this gorgeous old tavern burned to the ground. Thsi recipe had been published many years ago in a local newspaper, much to the delight of the Tavern's fans. |
