Chocolate Cake

  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 T. shortening (generous)
  • 2 sq. chocolate, melted
  • 1 egg
  • 1 c. flour
  • 1 c. buttermilk or sour milk
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
     
 
Cream sugar and shortening. Add egg and melted chocolate. Add baking soda to milk and add alternately with flour and salt. Add vanilla. Pour into a greased 8 or 9 inch cake pan. Bake at 350° for 30 minutes. this makes a nice, moist cake which is great with or without frosting. Instead, use a dollop of ice cream or whipped topping!
