Ham & Cabbage Casserole

  • 1 head cabbage cut coarse
  • 2 c. cooked diced ham
  • 1/4 c. butter or margarine
  • 1/4 c. flour
  • 2 c. milk
  • 1 tsp. celery seed
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 c. dry bread crumbs
  • 2 T. butter
  • 1/4 c. chopped onion
     
 
Cook cabbage 15 minutes. Saute ham and onion in butter in skillet. Stir in flour, add milk stirring until thick and smooth. Add celery seed and salt. Layer in baking dish, 1/2 cabbage, ham mixture and cheese, Repeat. Top with crumbs browned in butter. Bake 300° for 30 minutes.
